PERFORMANCE SYNOPSIS

Two stories collided coincidently,
In farce and poignancy,
Transit between humour and melancholy,
When you are desirous of an ideal,
You defy the negligence,
Onwards with the endless search…

Due to the mismanagement of the theatre personnel, two theatre companies were forced to rehearse at the same place. One rehearses the poignant play about an interracial relationship that was separated by the borders during the modern history, while another story was adapted from one of the greatest poet Tao Yuanming’s comedy- A depressed and anxious fisherman trespassed the Peach Blossom Land by accident, isolated from the troubled world yet insisted to go home. As the two groups struggle for control of the stage, resulting in chaos and numerous comic squabbles, their contrasting worlds begin to come together, creating surprising new layers of meaning that are tragically moving and comically erroneous.

In 1986, Performance Workshop has successfully set an important milestone for Taiwan contemporary theatre scene by challenging the boundaries of tragedy and comedy with the Secret Love of Peach Blossom Land. This year, with the renewed focus on theatre classics, Pentas Project Theatre Production will be adapting this world-renowned masterwork into multi-lingual context with an array of cross-cultural casts. Secret Love will be taking on the Malay adaptation, while Peach Blossom Land remained its Chinese interpretation. A display of diversity can be seen through the three languages (English, Chinese and Malay) performed, as well as the cross-border collaboration from theatre, TV and film industries, in portrayal of the omission and perseverance of our very own Malaysia society.


【演出簡介】

戲裡嬉謔笑鬧，忽而哀傷落寞，
面對理想，必須對抗遺忘，不斷地探問與追尋——
雖然我們永遠都不知道追尋的盡頭有什麼。
荒誕故事與真實人生輪番上演，
當我們笑看台上的一切，回過神來卻已熱淚盈眶。

一則講述一段近代歷史洪流中分隔兩地的異族戀情，另一則改編自陶淵明詩作的喜劇，苦悶憂愁的漁夫誤闖桃花源，隔離於亂世之外卻執意要回家。因為劇場管理員安排失誤，兩個劇組被迫在同一個場地排練。期間佈景混亂、對白交錯，兩個古今差異的主題竟意外合拍，重疊成非一般的悲喜劇。

1986年，表演工作坊以《暗戀桃花源》叩問悲劇與喜劇的界線，跳脫劇場敘述框架，成為台灣當代劇場重要的里程碑。2018年，平台計劃立基劇場經典，由羅國文導演改編的《錯誤的悲喜劇》充分展演本土特色，《暗戀》將以馬來文呈現，《桃花源》則維持中文演繹，兩個劇組調整排演過程中以英語交談。這樣的多元表演語境，由中巫英文劇場演員以及本地影視圈藝人跨界參與，共同詮釋屬於馬來西亞社會的錯過與追尋。

Sinopsis

Disebabkan pengurusan kerja yang tidak cekap oleh seorang pengurus panggung, dua kumpulan teater terpaksa mengadakan latihan di ruang yang sama pada waktu yang sama. Kumpulan teater Melayu berlatih teater tragedi, Secret Love mengenai hubungan cinta berlainan kaum yang terpisah akibat perang dan persempadanan, dan kumpulan teater Cina mementaskan teater komedi Peach Blossom Land yang diadaptasi daripada karya puisi klasik China, Tao Yuanming. Kisah komedi ini adalah mengenai seorang nelayan yang kemurungan dan memasuki alam Peach Blossom Land secara tidak sengaja. Walaupun dipinggirkan di dunianya, dia tetap mahu pulang ke tempat asalnya.

Sedang dua kumpulan ini berusaha untuk terus mengadakan latihan di ruang yang sama, ia mencetuskan huru hara dan pertelingkahan. Namun, persembahan mereka yang walaupun tampak berlainan akhirnya turut terjalin dengan indah – menghasilkan lapisan makna yang berbeza serta memberi makna baharu tentang kepiluan dan kegembiraan.

Pada tahun ini, Pentas Project Theatre Production akan mementaskan sebuah adaptasi segar daripada naskhah teater klasik, Secret Love of Peach Blossom Land, dengan barisan pelakon pelbagai kaum. Persembahan dalam tiga bahasa yang bertajuk The Tragicomedy of Errors adalah diadaptasi daripada naskhah Secret Love of Peach Blossom Land karya asal daripada produksi The Performance Workshop. Teater ini akan dipentaskan di Pentas 1, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre pada 18 – 21 Oktober 2018.

Choreographic Directions in Contemporary Dance

In this roundtable discussion, three local dance practitioners will offer their experiences and observations of recent directions and current conditions in local contemporary dance choreography, in the hopes of stimulating creative dialogue in the arts community.

Choreographer Faillul Adam will offer insights into contemporary dance at ASWARA, and his view of interdisciplinary perspectives, collaboration and using non-dancers to dance. Choreographer JS Wong** will discuss his personal experiences that reflect his training, and thoughts on the current choreographic environment and available platforms, as well as working with local and international artists. Dance producer Bilqis Hijjas will share observations on projects that focus on process rather than product. The group will also touch upon their experiences of working with dramaturgs/third eyes.

The company has been devoted to promoting the local dance scene and nurturing dancers, aiming to create an accessible platform for amateur dancers to express themselves at a professional level. To promote original work and choreography, it often collaborates with international and local artists. An emerging company founded in 2012, based on individual vision that aims to bridge the body, the dance and the community. DBP is dedicated to encouraging creative and/or explorational cross-disciplinary networks, collaboration and platform for dancing bodies or organisations. Focusing on four trajectories i.e. #1 performance-based research / research-based performance, #2 talks / discussion, #3 workshops and #4 documentation, DBP earnestly believes that ‘everyone can D.A.N.C.E.’!

Malaysia is a multi-racial and multi-cultural country with differences in language, religion and ethnicity. And these differences have combined and influencing each other, eventually influenced the emergence of diverse art forms and streams that are unique. The establishment of Pentas Project hopes to get its nutrients from the multi-cultural society, and looking into ourselves while gazing the world.

*MyDance Alliance*
MyDance Alliance is a non-profit volunteer membership organisation which seeks to support and promote dance in Malaysia. Registered in 2001 and headed by a 10-person committee selected by its members, the organisation initiates projects in dance creation and performance, education and training, research and documentation, and other types of support and development.

短短的一剎，她快樂，她興奮，
匆匆的一場，她悲哀，她苦悶。
當她從夢中醒覺，却已走完了一生……

一個在齷齪之中找尋純潔的廁所女工。
從小，林黛就是她最知心的朋友；
平凡的她，渴望像林黛一樣在舞台上發光發熱。
她在停不下來的現實中竭力奔走，
從一個地方走到另一個地方，
和不同的人，和自己，不停地對話與傾訴，
她一邊走一邊尋找，
走在現實與夢境交錯的時空裡，
回到她成長的房子，
在一家Kopitiam休息，
走進電影院看電影，
坐上迷你巴士，
最後，她停在一座寺廟里。
隨著林黛一段又一段的經典歌曲，
走完她既有趣又淒美的一生……

本地著名劇作家廖培珍經典英語劇作《A Modern Woman Called Ang Tau Mui》，自2001年起經羅國文導演四度以華粵雙語改編創作，曾經跨海於《2011澳門城市藝穗節》演出，如今再度回歸，重現時代經典。首次采用雙旦上陣，由譚小虹及鄧綉金輪番登場。创新携手，结合Fairuz Sulaiman的影像藝術和楊淑棻的服裝設計，解構虛實夢幻，嫁接影音空間，呈現一部闡述時代女性奇幻一生的單人劇。

People say life is like a dream,
She says a dream is like life,
There is joy and celebration,
There is sorrow and grief,
When awaken from a dream, she has come to the end of life…

Ang Tau Mui, a toilet cleaner, has been idolizing Lin Dai since young. As a working-class woman, she has always yearned to shine on stage just as Lin Dai. Ang Tau Mui has been striving in the tangible reality; from one place to the other, running and searching, speaking and confiding with people and herself. While traversing between reality and dream, she returns to her childhood house, rests in a kopitiam, catches a movie in a cinema, rides on the mini bus, and finally, she stops at an old temple. Trailing after Lin Dai’s songs, her captivating yet poignant story has come to an end….

A Modern Woman Called Ang Tau Mui is an English classic play written by Leow Puay Tin. Director Loh Kok Man has adapted the play in both Mandarin and Cantonese since 2001. In year 2011, he was invited to stage the play in Macau City Fringe Festival. This year, a brand new collaboration has given rise to the role of Ang Tau Mui being shared between two artists; Tammi Tam and Thian Siew Kim. This monologue play will be a new version of the timely theatrical classic, a work to reveal a deconstruction of virtual reality and fantasy. With the integration of video art by Fairuz Sulaiman and costume design by Michell Yong, the play is set to narrate and elaborate the intriguing life of this modern woman.

從上個世紀90年代中開始，隨著“國際表演藝術市集"
(International Performing Arts Market) 的崛起與蓬勃發展，讓藝術家及其作品有更多曝光的管道，同時獲得 更多的演出機會，促進國際表演藝術團體及個體之間更多元的交流與 合作。因此，"國際表演藝術市集"可說是目前國際上相當重要的交 流與交易的平台，讓表演藝術藉此提高其能見度及拓展其市場。
由雲手文創基金會主催、戲劇聯盟聯辦的第9場之「圓桌匯意」，有 幸邀請到 Toccata Studio 的創意製作人陳魚簡、［人人人鼓劇場］的執行製作人廖慧鳴，以及 ［平台計劃］的藝術總監羅國文，齊齊三人行，與我們分享他們這幾 年參與國際表演藝術市集，如日本的TPAM(Tokyo Performing Arts Market),、韓國的PAMS(Performing Arts Market in Seoul), 、澳洲的APAM（Australian Performing Arts Market）、美國的ISPA(International Society for the Performing Arts)等的交流觀察與體驗，盼望大家踴 躍出席交流，藉此拓展大家對"國際表演藝術市集"的想像與視野。

《圓桌匯意》，一個平等、對話、分享、交流、討論與協商的對話交 流平台。希望通過每次不同主題的圓桌會議形式，匯集各方意見，建 立一個表演藝術相互分享知識與想法的交流平台。在促進表演藝術工 作者相互深入了解的同時，並延伸至對本土表演藝術生態與體制的了 解與思考，通過對其他人的觀點進行討論，彼此之間沒有階層， 沒有權威，不受束縛，從而達到相互學習與交流的目的。

圓桌匯意由羅國文發起，雲手基金會主催、戲劇聯盟聯辦。


陳魚簡，馬來西亞當代創意藝術製作人。創辦Toccata Studio，主要提倡當代創意表演藝術，推廣跨領域原創作品。 同時經營 Space.Toccata，一個擁有駐村計劃的創意開發空間。 自2014年，她多次受邀出席國際文化藝術研討會，其中包括法國 、美國、日本、韓國、澳洲等。2016年及2017 年兩度受美國國際演藝協會（ISPA）挑選為國際獎勵金得主，出席紐約的年度大會。目前為亞洲製作人平台的委員會成員。魚簡為推 動當代創意藝術不遺餘力，堅信在有限的生命中以不設限的方式創作無限可能。




廖慧鳴，2013年畢業於法國波爾多三大，劇場表演藝術系。留學 期間，遴選為ERASMUS歐洲交換學生計劃代表到意大利威尼斯 IUAV進行一年的課程，同年， 也參與由意大利藝術家Claudia Castellucci領導的表演藝術研究學校Scuola Conia。除了是人人人鼓劇場全職表演者外，同時也在近幾年投 入鼓劇團內部行政與劇場製作。所參與國際邀演的製作包括《 獨角戲》至比利時與德國《城市舞蹈》藝術節，意大利威尼斯《 戶外舞台藝術節》，瀨戶內海藝術祭APAM（Asia Performing Arts Market）以及《二十四節令鼓法國巡演計劃》為期六個星期等 。最近，也得到Cendana的資助參與位於Brisbane的 Australia Performing Arts Market 2018。




羅國文，劇場導演、燈光設計師、舞台設計師以及戲劇導師。200 5年他創辦了［平台計劃］， 一直致力於搭建橋樑以多元藝術交流為本的團隊。曾多次榮獲馬來西 亞金馬崙藝術大獎的［最佳導演］、［最佳燈光設計］、［ 最佳舞台設計］獎的他，創作向來善於綜合多種劇場的元素， 尤其是影像、燈光、聲響、演員肢體和劇場的戲劇架構間交錯互動所 呈現的效果，豐富了對劇場視覺空間及時間的探索。 2005年獲得美國”亞洲文化協會“獎學金遠赴美國遊學半年。2 013年獲得歌德學院獎學金赴柏林學習一個月。國文也經常受邀參 與國際合作交流計劃，曾赴日本、韓國、印度、德國、菲律賓、 上海、泰國、新加坡、台灣、紐約、柬埔寨、澳門及澳洲等地參與演出和交流。

艺图，是艺术工作者的艺术生涯之规划、探索和思变 ― 在无尽迷茫的现实里预测出路，在不断跌撞的经历中成长与茁壮，并在不同的文化密度里挥洒各自的舞蹈/艺术理念。穿越不同国境的身体，在面对不同的生存、体制、资源不均等压力时会如何主动选择对艺术保有饥渴、想象力、好奇心与温度？如何跨越身体和心理的边界，定位自身的价值？漂泊异乡的马来西亚艺术工作者将如何在差异之中保持平衡、安定生活甚至回归初心？在资讯发达的信息时代，我们企图透过对话来得到启发。

此圆桌将邀请三位不停地离乡与回乡、驻地与各地走动的表演艺术工作者前来分享，包括善于融合身声音乐肢体演艺风格的表演者、编导、面具设计师兼舞台设计师 张伟来，旅居海外多年涉猎多个演出专业领域的编舞者、舞台监督、策划及制作人、灯光设计师 刘诗豪 以及毕业于埃森市福克望艺术大学舞蹈创作、目前定居于德国并以舞作为疗愈方式的 廖正彬。
